Oh God, so this one's been like a week in the making! There's a million influences to it, mostly the general stuff, like the Musey fuzz bass and keyboard and the vaguely Panic! at the Disco inspired chorus melody, but the big one is "1,000 Years" by Homie. And of course, the lyrics are a full return to anime girl nonsense, but in a way that I'm really proud of, because they have more depth than just that.
Huge shoutout to my boy Will McCarthy for providing some of the guitar effects on the weird, experimental outro. I pretty much went wild with weird guitar noises there.
Overall, I'm really proud of this one!
lyrics
Verse 1:
I'd be free of sadness
Swimming in the starry sky
Even staring at the shore
While shipwrecks multiply
She's been clawing at me
Since the water cleared her head
At least I know I'm right
Though I'll end up a thankless friend
Pre-Chorus:
Cause it all went wrong
Chorus:
Started at the afterparty
Where he said best wishes
So, what did I do wrong?
To get so strung along
Asked him if he'd come to see me
Wouldn't want to miss it/this
Except he never showed
He said he couldn't go
Post-Chorus:
So, is that right?
You heard him saying something
About her life
About how she had suffered
Verse 2:
The story that connected us
Was bound to slip away
A small supply of anecdotes
Abruptly stopped one day
The happiness of meeting you
Was ruined by the end
When I had finally realized
That we'd stopped being friends
Pre-Chorus:
Cause it all went wrong
Chorus:
Started at the afterparty
Where he said best wishes
So, what did I do wrong?
To get so strung along
Asked him if he'd come to see me
Wouldn't want to miss it/this
Except he never showed
He didn't want to go
Post-Chorus:
Come on, don't lie
You're going/coming with me, aren't you?
Come to my dream
A future I could live through

Our first album is a raw piece of garage (er, basement) rock, heavily inspired by Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Weezer. It's rough, but it's free, and in my biased opinion, worth a listen. John Vermeersch
