So this one has a bit of a weird origin. Rivers Cuomo of Weezer talked about how he'll sometimes look through Spotify for songs he's never heard before, pick out some chord progressions he likes, record them, and then file them away so he doesn't remember what song they're from. He'll then come back to them and make his own song from them.
I decided to try this strategy and so this one has a chorus that borrows some of its progression from a Britney Spears song of all things (which somehow also makes it sound a bit like "This Love" by Maroon 5). I expanded on it, and now the verse has pitched up, '60s-esque lead guitars (not entirely happy with their sound, but it's close to what I want), and the song has lyrics about anxiety and depression.
lyrics
Chorus:
I'm up too late again
I've been thinking about fake friends
This whole last year's been hell
But since you asked, I'm doing well
Verse 1:
I woke up at 2 or 3
Didn't feel like doing anything
Stayed in bed and spent the day
I hate being awake anyway
Chorus:
I'm up too late again
I've been thinking about fake friends
This whole last year's been hell
But since you asked, I'm doing well
Verse 2:
One mistake and that's your year
You'll end up hated like you feared
No one liked you, you should go
I really, really tried, you know
Chorus:
I'm up too late again
I've been thinking about fake friends
This whole last year's been hell
But since you asked, I'm doing well
*solo*
Chorus:
I'm up too late again
I've been thinking about fake friends
This whole last year's been hell
But since you asked, I'm doing well

Our first album is a raw piece of garage (er, basement) rock, heavily inspired by Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Weezer. It's rough, but it's free, and in my biased opinion, worth a listen. John Vermeersch
