about

Didn't feel like finishing an existing tune, so I started jamming this grungy little progression and structured out and recorded an instrumental song before noodling over it with acoustic guitar for melody and dipping into my stream-of-consciousness writing for lyrics. Didn't bother doing my usual pitch-down-acoustic trick for bass, I just kept it at the regular pitch of the acoustic. Felt like it added to the grungy vibe. Reminds me of "Pretty Penny" by Stone Temple Pilots. I like the vibe of this one a lot. Very eerie. Ending is a little abrupt though.

lyrics

Verse 1:
Come home to an uninvited guest
Ignored, on the couch like all the rest
Sinking my own ship to perservere

It's new, something there inside her eyes
Fixed on photos I don't recognize
Would you like some doubt with all your fear?

Chorus:
She came just like she went
Embodiment of discontent
I don't know what she meant
When she said hope was heaven sent

Verse 2:
Nothing worse than a flame on New Year's Night
Mind skewed, so I can't remember right
Would you tell me just what happened here?

Chorus:
She came just like she went
Embodiment of discontent
I don't know what she meant
When she said hope was heaven sent

You wanna live alone
To own a house without the rent
Not hard to figure why
When common sense has all been spent

Post-Chorus:
You said you're happy
But your smile's wearing thin
You haven't slept
And you're deprived of medicine

*solo*

Chorus:
She came just like she went
Embodiment of discontent
I don't know what she meant
When she said hope was heaven sent

You wanna live alone
To own a house without the rent
Not hard to figure why
When common sense has all been spent

Post-Chorus:
You said you're happy
But your smile's wearing thin
You haven't slept
And you're deprived of medicine
