Mix and vocal could use work but overall I'm happy with this one. This one was interesting. I had the idea in theory class the other day to take a happy love song, transpose it into minor, and work based off of that new contrast. I chose "Still Into You" by Paramore and in fact the chorus of this is based off of that. I came up with a new progression for the verse and decided to add some keyboard in lieu of bass. Originally wanted to make the lyrics about a cheating partner, but that wasn't going anywhere, so I turned it into an angsty diary entry instead. Funny how the one that started as a love song ends up as one of the few that isn't about a relationship.
lyrics
Verse 1:
You can never have a say if you're not invited
And you'll live life out of touch
Invite me to parties and I'll just watch
And that's more than good enough
I can't replace my luck-based fate
And now my life's a lottery
It took me years, but I think I get it
There's something wrong with me
Chorus:
Life is cheap and time is loaded
I wanna be sixteen again instead
Don't mind me cause I'm just visiting
Mark my words, nobody's listening
Life is cheap and time is loaded
Verse 2:
For all the pain, at least it's living
And some people can't manage that
I hate the grind but at least I've got one
No matter where I'm at
I'm less naive than I used to be
And I don't feel as young
These people will never be my friends
But at least we all had fun
Chorus:
Life is cheap and time is loaded
I wanna be sixteen again instead
Don't mind me cause I'm just visiting
Mark my words, nobody's listening
Life is cheap and time is loaded
Bridge:
We always used to say, when we were young
No matter what happens, we won't fall apart
Is this a bold step or just a mistake?
I guess I'll throw myself away
*solo*
Chorus:
Life is cheap and time is loaded
I wanna be sixteen again instead
Don't mind me cause I'm just visiting
Mark my words, nobody's listening
Life is cheap and time is loaded

John Vermeersch: guitar, keyboard, drum samples, vocals
Our first album is a raw piece of garage (er, basement) rock, heavily inspired by Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Weezer. It's rough, but it's free, and in my biased opinion, worth a listen. John Vermeersch
