I got home from an afternoon bike ride today, and this bass riff popped into my head. I initially wanted to write a funky, Artic Monkeys-esque song, but it morphed into something grungier, with an '80s sounding chorus. You can also hear a little Elliott Smith influence in the verse, which I think is cool. Few hiccups here and there in the demo, but I'm looking forward to doing more with this song. It also marks the grand return of me writing about anime girls. What a thing to look forward to.
lyrics
Verse 1:
No stranger, happy just to know you
Hold on, but I'll have to outgrow you
Chorus:
You're speeding up
But it's not a race
Violet goodbye
In a bowlcut phase
Signs of a shudder
Before I say
I'm happy
Just to know you
Verse 2:
Cut wires and cut your inspiration
Solder on, a dead and dull creation
Chorus:
You're speeding up
But it's not a race
Violet goodbye
In a bowlcut phase
Signs of a shudder
Before I say
I'm happy
Just to know you
Used to look out
At the sparkling stars
Staying connected
From miles apart
And you'll get ahold
Of my aching heart
I'm happy
Just to know you
*breakdown/solo*
Verse 3:
New life, a second favorite person
Worst case, I'll still end up a new friend
Chorus:
You're speeding up
But it's not a race
Violet goodbye
In a bowlcut phase
Signs of a shudder
Before I say
I'm happy
Just to know you
Used to look out
At the sparkling stars
Staying connected
From miles apart
And you'll get ahold
Of my aching heart
I'm happy
Just to know you

John Vermeersch: Bass, electric guitars, bongos, vocals
Our first album is a raw piece of garage (er, basement) rock, heavily inspired by Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Weezer. It's rough, but it's free, and in my biased opinion, worth a listen. John Vermeersch
